Flanagan State Bank in Gridley, IL

Modeled after the original location in Flanagan, Illinois, the Gridley Branch was a new commercial build. For a familiar invitation across both new locations, you'll notice the presence of similar stone fireplaces, light fixtures, deep oak wood choices, and tall crown molding throughout the interior. On the exterior, the brick, siding, roof materials, and soffits share similar color schemes and materials. Intentional warm lighting and colors inside create a welcoming feel to a bank that also serves as a community center. The downstairs is equipped with a full kitchen and gathering area for parties and events. On the first floor the fireplace and chairs near an entire wall of windows brings in natural light and a welcoming waiting area.

Opportunities

Visibility

It is important to balance both visibility and privacy within a public bank environment. By adding windows to the corner of offices and meeting rooms, it allows visibility into the main lobby as well as natural light.

INVITATION

The windows at the entrance of the bank are arranged in a familiar grid pattern which is a more inviting design element, and also mimicked again in the foyer and on the back wall next to the fireplace. In contrast to the Flanagan branch which has tall narrow windows to accentuate its 2-story height, the shorter wider windows at the Gridley Branch add width to the single-floor location helping the space feel inviting, larger, and more spacious.

Community

Warm colored lighting, a stone fireplace, deep woods, and a community space were all intentionally designed to ensure the bank is a place that is inviting, not intimidating. Banks in smaller towns have an opportunity to not only help its residents with their finances, but be a gathering place and double as a community center for all.
