McLean County Farm Bureau

Visual cues are an important aspect of displaying authenticity. As advocates for the local agricultural community, McLean County Farm Bureau embraced an architectural design for their new building that incorporates farming themes inside and out. Each detail was specifically selected to highlight the non-profit organization's commitment to farming by honoring elements that are welcoming and recognizable. The metal roof and matching window awnings serve both functional purposes for unpredictable Illinois weather as well as a familiar modern barn aesthetic. These more modern architectural features are balanced by familiar red barn doors on the exterior and creative landscaping choices that mimic rows of corn. The landscaping continues around the building revealing an expansive patio area in the back with maturing trees. Inside you'll find strong lines and windows arranged in grid patterns reminiscent of what you might see flying over farm fields. The community aspect of the building is prominent with a gathering room to the left of the entrance, a large and open lobby, and a round table in the conference room providing ample space for board meetings where everyone can have an equal seat. With private offices, a reception, and community areas, this building accomplishes a lot both functionally and artistically on a relatively compact footprint.

Farming takes strength and perseverance. Thick strong lines are present throughout the interior of the building, prominent as window frames, exposed beams, and deep wood trim. With most windows, you'll notice these strong lines presented in a grid pattern, inspired by what you might see flying over fields in the midwest. This element appears in gathering areas like the entrance, conference room, and community room.

The community room can be reconfigured for a variety of needs, with space for chair and table storage in the alcove in the back. Every space was designed with the community in mind to be a place where farmers can support one another and help the agricultural community in central Illinois thrive.
